Illume Magazine

Hey guys,

A few weeks ago, or maybe it was a few days ago as I can’t really remember, Illume magazine contacted me and wanted to use a few of my images for a story.

Basically, they have have column called 'God Has 99 Names'. In each issue, they touch on 2-3 attributes, and the artwork for the article that reflect on the names of Allah.

My artwork was recommended and well…..ermmm..dunno what else to say!?!?!?

Teakser and the U.A.E

I know it’s been like forever but I managed to upload some of the photos I took while I was in the U.A.E.

I know, I said I’ll upload them straight away but life was keeping me busy. Plus there was this huge cheesecake that needed to be eaten and sometimes you got to know what the important stuff in life is!

Anyways, I took over a hundred photos while I was there. Some of the best shots are available to see in the photography section of the site.

Take a look around, when you have time.

Ramadan Limited Edition Print

Ramadan Mubarak to all my watchers, readers and stalkers!!!!

To anyone who doesn’t know what Ramadan is, it is a Muslim religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, believed to be the month in which the Qur'an was revealed to Angel Gabriel, who later revealed it to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims do not eat or drink anything from dawn until sunset. Fasting is meant to teach the person patience and humility. Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of God, and to offer even more prayer than usual. In Ramadan Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance into the future, ask for help in refrain from everyday evils and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds.

For more information, check out this link on wikipedia.

I thought it would be great for my loyal fans to get a treat.

Buy Ramadan Spirit

So I created a limited edition print, which will be only available to buy during Ramadan. After that it ….erm…it won’t be available to buy – EVER!!!

So get it while you can!

However, since most of you like me because of my freebies…I may even give a couple of out for free or something.

One last thing, if anyone wants me to design something for them then let me know!

Take care, people!

What Barry says-

Cool looking animation - I love the colours!

Hey everyone,

Sorry that I haven’t done anything here for a while.

There is a lot of reasons for that….well actually not really because I can count them on one hand.

My life has been really complex over the past few months with lots of stuff happening.   This led to huge moments of depression and self destruction. Don’t worry I didn’t do drugs, but I ate loads of ice cream and buckets of fried chicken.  Looking back, I guess it’s as bad as taking drugs.

Plus I wasted hours on playing World of Warcaft.  That game has killed a huge part of my life and I always feel empty when I played it.

However that period is behind me and I plan to get back on track.  So expect lots of work from me over the coming weeks and months.

Peace out people!!!

Olympics Monkey Animation

In the run up to broadcasting the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, BBC Sport commissioned musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett from the band Gorrillaz to come up with an animation and a soundtrack based on their incredible Chinese Opera 'Monkey: Journey To The West'.

The results are epic!

Emerald Islamic Art & Photography Competition 2008

Now for some news that you would be delighted to hear…or probably not as it’s to do with me (again!)

In the UK there is a social network by the name of Emerald Network. Their vision is to enable Muslims to enhance their ‘Muslim network’ for their own benefit - whether that may be social or business purposes.

They have no political agenda, nor any affiliation to any other group or organisation, which makes them possibly the leading body in the UK with such a unique underlying set of principles and objectives.

This year they had a competition for the artist circle. Well…actually they had two competitions, one for arts and the other for photography.

Okay…you probably can see where I am going with this!!!!

That’s right - your local art freak came in and swept away with title – Emerald Artist of the Year!!!!!

They gave me a little glass trophy to keep. You know… it probably break it in a week or as my home is always an accidental zone. Well…I’ll enjoy it tell then.

You know…I would like to give and big thank you to all my fans and supporters, without them I would have given this up ages ago. All I can say that these gifts are a blessing from Allah.

Okay…time to get back to my little cave and carry on working!!!

Oh before I go….does anyone know where I can some Porsche’s 911 for cheap as I need to delivery them to certain people who call themselves judges!

Teakster At Islam Expo 2008

So this year London’s Olympia is going to opens its doors and host Islam Expo.

On its website it says that its gonna be Europe’s largest four-day Islamic exhibition. Well…I personally think its…well…I not gonna say anything…because I’ll get into trouble. I mean a lot of money is getting thrown around for this!

I’m not saying that you should or shouldn’t go but personally I think it should be free to enter! Don’t get me wrong, I believe in covering your costs but with all the sponsorships deals and other stuff…..You would think that this will better as a free public event?!

Anyways…if you’ve already got a ticket then check out the artist gallery, as ONE of my images will be there. After this statement I don’t think that they will want me back!

So stop by and say hi or maybe some abuse?!

Don’t worry if you wont be able to see my image…I’ll upload it here later!

The Brothahood join forces with Teakster

Amazing news people – The Brothahood have asked me to create artwork for there first album.

Okay….many of the people who are reading this are going “who are the brothahood?!”

Well…unless you’re from the land of down under.  The Brothahood are newest and biggest Muslim hip-hop group coming out of Australia.

In an age where hip-hop is dominated with meaningless, material based lyrics, these brothers bring a hard and smooth blended flow that hopes to give a little more than just a nice beat.

The Brothahood are striving to motivate the Muslim youth of Australia to be proud of their faith in a time when it is needed the most. On the frontline of battling stereotypes against Muslims in the west, they bring about a whole new theme to hip-hop whilst keeping the essence...the message.

Look…just watch this video documentary, as it will explain more about them than you guys trying to understand my poorly written sentences -  The Brothahood Documentary

So basically they came up to me and gave me exclusive commission to create and design their new album.  The best part was that I didn’t have to tie up and torture anyone.

So check out the commission area for a sneak peek at their new album cover.

There debut album 'Lyrics of Mass Construction' will be released in July!!

Oh check out their website to listen to some of their tracks -

Hmm…….I wonder if this makes me an honouree Brothahood member?!

Salam Café

Okay – I’m officially a fan of Salam Café.

Here is some random information about the show:-

Salam Cafe offers the audience a compelling look at the funny side of life as an Australian Muslim today. Regular panelists include esteemed host Ahmed Imam, journalist and counter-terrorism expert, Waleed Aly and the multi-talented Susan Carland.

Yeah Yeah…blah blah  - However, I love the way they talk about serious events as well having a good time about.  I think they’ve also won an antenna award or something recently.  Finally, something good coming out of Austrilia and has nothing to do with sports!

I say we need more stuff like this. To watch one of the lastest show then click on this link - Salam Cafe

Okay.....I’m off to see if I can facebook these guys!

You want prints with that?!

Okay…a big day has arrived for me and you guys!!!

A lot of people were interested in getting prints of my work. To begin with I wasn't interested making them but lately the amount of people who want prints has grown larger.  It has got to a point where I am getting threatening emails and the odd brick through the window.

Apart from finding the bricks useful to build my home, I guess I should listen to my fans and who am I to deny them from getting prints.

So mark today as an important day as SOME of my work are available for sale.

I’ve joined forces with deviantart to print and sell my work.  I haven’t made them expensive either so a student or a full time worker on minim wage can afford them.  Well…then again it depends on the currency of your country!

To view my work on sale, check out this link - deviantart store

Hey…if you want to buy in bulk or something, I’ll even sort out a discount or something!

Catch ya later people!!!

Love At War

Okay - this has to be one of the coolest adverts I have ever seen!!!

The story of Khaled Ibn Alwalid's famous love to the Prophet (pbuh) moment in the battle of Al-Yarmouk when he lost his helmet. He always had few strands hidden in the helmet. Shot by Oscar winning Director Stephan Ruzowisky.

Al Mahabba Awards 2008 (I’m freaking V.I.P!!!!)

Okay people, sorry that I have been off the radar but there is a good reason.

I was nominated for the graphic award at the 2008 Al Mahabba awards.

Okay, here is the part that I explain what it is, so try to keep awake -

Al Mahabba Awards is an annual event that seeks to promote and reward artistic expressions of love for the Prophet Mohammed (SAW). Its aim is to provide a platform for scholars, artists, authority figures and the general public alike to come together in celebrating their love for the messenger Mohammad may Allah's Peace and blessings be upon him.

For more information, check out this site -

Soooo…..long story short, I came in a close second - So yeah I lost!

I was beaten by the Calligrapher Naciye Subaşı -

I didn’t mind coming second to her and I have the highest respect for her and her work.  Although I was a bit amazing when a few people complained and thought I should have won it.  Then again, maybe I imagined that part?!

One problem that I found out was that if you don’t dress V.I.P you don’t get treated like V.I.P.  I lost count the amount of times I was thrown out Awards event because they thought I was some tramp that crawled off the streets.

Oh well never mind eh?!  I least I took some great shots and I made some news friends.

I will be posting the photos up soon!!!

Peace out!!!

Islamic Arts Editor

Hey people!!!

I have been made the new Islamic Arts Editor for I not sure how this occurred but personally blame the milkshake they tricked me into drinking. Next thing I know, I had signed away a part of my life.

I am a bit of cowboy artist as I like to make pretty pictures, so society has labelled me an “artist”. Every Wednesday I will be highlighting a different piece of Islamic Art/Photography each week, in order to promote the work of Muslim artists, plus any big art events.

So check it out sometime!!!

Last Sermon!!!

Okay - I am really gonna upset some of the corporate monkeys here!

Since the Prophet Muhammed(s.a.w) has been getting a lot of grief, I thought it would great for the world to see one of his last sermons.

Soooo….I got my artist brain a designed a free poster, with the Prophet Muhammed's (s.a.w) last sermon, for you guys to have. You can print it off and stick it up wherever you like. Heck – give it random people if the street if you want!

I got really upset when I saw people actually selling this; I mean stuff like this shouldn’t be sold?! Plus the designs weren’t all that great too!

So I have made my own one for my loyal watchers – So enjoy!

Okay…now I am gonna hide from the evil sale people of the world! - View Poster

There is a new art movement by the name of Calligraffiti!

Some of my new works have been inspired by this new movement.

This new urban art movement blends the 4,000 year old traditional Arabic or Asian practice of calligraphy with the modern street-influenced art-form of graffiti to create an all new flavour.

Check out these videos of examples of Calligraffiti

Collaboration with Haji Noor Deen

As some of you may be aware, I like to do collaboration artwork with other artists.

So I was in total shock when Haji Noor Deen agreed to do some collaboration work.

Haji Noor Deen Mi Guang Jiang is a renowned master of Arabic calligraphy. Born in 1963 in Shangdong province, China, he brings an immense learning in traditional thought and Islamic art to a modern audience, juxtaposing them in a new calligraphic style all his own, both Eastern and Western.

Check out the pieces in the collaboration section.

The winners of the One Nation, Many Voices film contest

The One Nation Many Voices Online Film Contest was a USA competition for short videos illuminating the American-Muslim experience. Everyone was invited to compete, regardless of race or religion!

Below is a video of one of the winners.

Its about an entirely free health clinic which opened its doors in South Central Los Angeles, in early 1996. A project initiated by Muslim American students, and now run by a dedicated staff of all religions and races, UMMA Community Clinic is indeed something special.

Understanding Oil By Serj Tankian

This essay was written by Serj two days after the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001. It caused a lot of controversy, particularly because many readers seemed to miss the message. Please understand, this essay is not attempting to justify the 9/11 attacks. When it was published, many mistook Serj's intentions and consequently denounced him, but if you pay attention to this small excerpt, it is impossible to say that Serj tried to justify the 9/11 attacks:

Keep an open mind when reading. This essay is an attempt at analyzing both side of the conflict and advocating universal peace.

This essay was originally published on, but was promptly removed by Sony.

The brutal attacks/bombings this week in New York, and Washington D.C., along with threats of attacks there and elsewhere in the country have changed our times forever. While the mass media concentrates on the details of the destruction, and the blanketed words of politicians, I will attempt to understand and explain the events from the fence. BOMBING AND BEING BOMBED ARE THE SAME THINGS ON DIFFERENT SIDES OF THE FENCE.

Terror is not a spontaneous human action without credence. People just dont hijack planes and commit harikari (suicide) without any weight of thought to the action. No one in the media seems to ask WHY DID THESE PEOPLE DO THIS HORRIFIC ACT OF VIOLENCE AND DESTRUCTION?

To be able to understand the answer to this, we must first look at our U.S. Mideast Policy. During most of the 20th century, U.S. businesses have worked on attaining oil rights and concessions from countries in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. After WWI, secret back door deals by our State Dept. yielded oil rights from then defeated Turkey to fields in what is now Iraq and Saudi Arabia, in return for looking the other way at a crime against humanity, the Genocide of the Armenians by the Turks. Oil profits have been the motivating factors behind many attempts at counterinsurgency of democratic regimes by the CIA and the U.S in the Middle East (such as Iran in the 1950s, where the Shah replaced the Prime Minister who refused to give up oil rights to the U.S., and since the people couldnt deal with the Shah, an extremist government headed by the Ayatollah Khomeini ultimately prevailed). During the Iran-Iraq war, America supplied both sides with weapons and advice. These are not the actions of a rich superpower wanting peace. Lets not forget that Saddam Hussein, before being Americas vision of the Anti-Christ, was a close ally of the U.S., and the CIA. So what was the firm belief system of consecutive American administrations that caused all this to occur ? PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST WILL LEAD TO HIGHER OIL AND GASOLINE PRICES. Lets not also forget the power of the Arms industry, disguised as defense, that still sells billions of dollars of weapons to the area. Therefore it has not been in the short-term economic interest of the U.S. to foster Peace in the Middle East. Using the above reasoning, the U.S. has encouraged extremist governments, toppled democracies, as in the case of Iran to replace it with a monarchy, rigged elections, and many more unspeakable political crimes for U.S. businesses abroad. Lets not also forget the Red Scare. During the war between the then Soviet Union and Afghanistan, the U.S. armed and supported the Taliban, a fundamentalist Muslim organization, and allowed them to export opium and heroin out of their country to pay for those weapons. Therefore the Taliban rose to power and control with the help of the U.S.A. Today, the bombing of Iraq still continues, no longer covered by the media, the economic embargo still remains, killing millions of children, and recently, while the world and the U.N. General Assembly have cried out to bring in peacekeeping forces into Israel and Palestine, to end the escalated war and recent assassinations, the U.S. has vetoed the rest of the Security Council and has halted the possibility of peace, there, in the most volatile place in the world.

People in Serbia, Lebanon, Iraq, Sudan, and Afghanistan to name a few have seen bombs fall, not always at military targets and kill innocent civilians, as the scene in New York city yesterday. The wars waged by our government in our names has landed smack in the middle of our living room. The half hour of destruction closed down all world financial markets, struck the central headquarters of our military, and had our leaders running into bunkers, and our citizens into fear and frenzy. What scares me more than what has occurred is what our reactions to the occurrences may cause. President Bush belongs to a long generation of Republican Presidents who love war economies. The media has only concentrated on the bombings, if you will, and what type of retaliations are looming for the perpetrators. What everyone fails to realize is that the bombings are a reaction to existing injustices around the world, generally unseen to most Americans. To react to a reaction would be to further sponsor the reaction. In other words, my belief is that the terror will multiply if concrete steps are not taken to sponsor peace in the middle east, NOW. This does not mean that we should not find the guilty party(s), Bin Laden, or whoever they may be, and not try them. Put simply, as long as a major injustice remains, violence precipitates to the surface of life.

Native American folklore, the Bible, Nostradamus, and many other major religious beliefs point to this era with the visuals of yesterdays disasters, and conditions of ecological disasters we experience daily in our lives today. War, rumors of war, famine, long burning fires, etc., are at our doorstep. We can prevail over this possible vision with the power of the human spirit, understanding, compassion, and peace. ITS TIME TO PUT OUR NEEDS FOR SECURITY AND SURVIVAL, ACHIEVED ONLY THROUGH PEACE, ABOVE AND BEYOND PROFITS, ESPECIALLY IN THESE TIMES.

The U.S. should stop sidestepping the U.N. Security Council, and allow U.N. Peacekeeping troops and missions to the Middle East. Stop the violence first.

Stop the bombing and patrol of Iraq.

With todays gains in the use of alternative fuels, develop them to full usage with autos and other utilities, to make the country less dependant on an already depleting natural reserve, oil.

By initiating peace, we would have already shaken the foundations of support for Bin Laden, and/or all those that sponsor activities like those we saw yesterday, and break the stronghold of extremists on the world of Islam. On the other hand, if we carry out bombings on Afghanistan or elsewhere to appease public demand, and very likely kill innocent civilians along the way, wed be creating many more martyrs going to their deaths in retaliation against the retaliation. As shown from yesterdays events, you cannot stop a person whos ready to die.
