1001 Inventions

There is an interesting exhibition at the Science Museum in London which is called 1001 Inventions.

1001 Inventions traces the forgotten story of a thousand years of science from the Muslim world, from the 7th century onwards. Muslim civilisation stretched from southern Spain as far as China. From the 7th century onwards, scholars of many faiths built on the ancient knowledge of the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, making breakthroughs that paved the way for the Renaissance.

This is one of the reasons why I make my art. To show people that I’m not what the media says I am or should be. I’m not some sort of crazy barbarian that wants to go on a mass genocide.

The exhibition shows discoveries made by men and women in Muslim civilisation which have left their mark on the way we live today. 1001 Inventions uncovers a thousand years of science and technology that had a huge but hidden impact on the modern world. If you have to see one thing then make sure that it is the short movie by Ben Kingsly. It was a bit lame but kind of funny.

More information can be found out on the Science Museum website

For whose who don’t live in the UK or London then check out their website to get a taster.

I’m a Photographer, Not a Terrorist!

Photography is under attack. Across the UK it that seems anyone with a camera is being targeted as a potential terrorist, whether amateur or professional, whether landscape, architectural or street photographer.

Not only is it corrosive of press freedom but creation of the collective visual history of our country is extinguished by anti-terrorist legislation designed to protect the heritage it prevents us recording.

Check out this campaign for everyone who values visual imagery, not just photographers.
